Deadpool the movie is set to hit theaters in the United States on February 12th (with a preview night on February 11th in many major markets). While the Merc with a Mouth has been ruling the marketing world with very Wade Wilson-esque marketing campaigns, there has not been a shortage of merchandise either. Although, the cynic in me is a bit disenchanted by the bandwagon jumpers and that Deadpool has gone so “mainstream,” it is kind of nice to have a wider variety of goodies to choose from. Here are some of my “out of the box” favorites that I have found so far:
Although many geek subscription box services have been jumping on the Deadpool merchandising bandwagon, I was a bit surprised to see that my jewelry subscription from Sweet Melissa’s Gift Set aka Buzz Bag was going to have Deadpool this month. For only $15, I usually get 5-6 curated pieces relating to the fandom theme for the month. This month included a bracelet, a key chain, nail decals, a necklace, three buttons/pins, and a magnet- all with the Deadpool theme. You definitely get your bang for your buck with the Buzz Bag!
Deadpool Coloring Book
Adult coloring books are all the rage right now. If you walk into any book section or book store, you will see a plethora of coloring books to choose from. Recently, I had decided to buy into the hype and was actually looking for the Sherlock Holmes (BBC version with Benedict Cumberbatch) one. While I did find the Sherlock one, I also came across an awesome Deadpool coloring book…complete with For Adults Only label on the bottom! I am so excited to get started once I find the right colored pencils (I am looking for ones with intense artist coloring versus the traditional ones used by school children).
Deadpool Wallpaper App for iPhone
The link to download this app was actually sent to me by another Deadpool fan. When it comes to my wallpaper, I usually will save a picture from Facebook and use that as my wallpaper (or something like a recent photo of my friend’s dog). However, I have never realized how clean, crisp, and gorgeous an image can look when it specifically formatted to be a wallpaper for my phone. The app gives you seven wallpaper images to choose from…as well as eight different soundbite ringtones than can be exported to iTunes to use as notification tones and/or ringtones.
I came across information about the Deadpool emojis on BuzzFeed Geeky’s Facebook page. The emoji app, once downloaded, turns your emoji keyboard into a world of Wade Wilson. Gone are the traditional yellow smiley faces, and instead, you have the Merc with a Mouth (and mask) saying what just can’t be said with words. After all, that is the point of an emoji isn’t it?
Deadpool 4th Wall Shirt:
Back in October, I signed up for the first Villain Crate (from the now defunct Hero Crate) and the focus was Deadpool. As much as I love Deadpool, I am often leery of his shirts because they tend to be a bit too dark (both literally and figuratively), too violent, or just not really in line with my personality or my style. Needless to say, I was a bit apprehensive of what t-shirt I would find in my crate. Low and behold, it was an awesome, not black, 4th wall breaking gem of a t-shirt. It is probably one of my all-time favorite pieces of merchandise.
